SMOKEY & THE BANDIT - TRANS AM

Posted by Billy Tackett on

THE CAR

The film Smokey & The Bandit starring Burt Reynolds was the 2nd highest grossing film in 1977 right behind Star Wars. In it, Reynolds buys the 1977 Trans Am to drive as a diversion for the police while his friend Snowman drives his big rig full of bootleg beer into another state.

Three “Bandits” were destroyed for the film and a fourth was so badly beaten up that it had to be pushed onto camera for the last scene filmed.

Within two years of the film’s release, Trans-Am sales more than doubled and there was a long wait for the black and gold color scheme.
