THE CAR
I think most of us in 2020 are familiar with the show even if we haven’t seen it: The Winchester Brothers tooling around the country in their black 1967 Chevrolet Impala four-door killing demons and taking names. Admittedly I don’t watch the show. I tried but it just didn’t connect with me. But I love that car!
After high school I had a 1968 Chevrolet Impala Custom which was a step down from a SS. It was rusted and a little beat up but it was a great car. Unlike my car which came with a small block 327, Winchester’s Baby has a 502 big block V-8. The creator of the series, Eric Kripke, says he was inspired by shows like the Dukes of Hazzard and Knight Rider, which all had cars as characters. Initially the boys were to drive a 1965 Mustang until someone informed him an Impala had a larger trunk therefore would be easier to carry a body or two. I can vouch for that.
THE ART
The painting is 11’x14” oil on board. It features Baby, or Metallicar, shadowed and emerging from the darkness on a blood red background. I’m playing around with some backgrounds, mostly getting inspiration from the concept car art of the 50s, 60s and 70s. The original can be purchased through the link at the top of the page and prints can be bought here on eBay. Limited edition, framed with a plate version can be bought from the link below.
